I am moving!

The day has finally come! On Friday I got the keys for my apartment and then I started to renovate. On Saturday I finished painting all the rooms, except for the bedroom which will be painted by a painter in the next week, with the help of my brother and his girlfriend. We even had the time to make a quick trip to IKEA and gather ideas. As both my dad and brother are really good craftsmen, I could just shout out ideas and they would say "Okay, we can make that and just need to buy this and that". Very handy!
Today I took a trip to another furniture shop, where I got a fridge and oven. The upcoming week the floor in the kitchen and the wall in the bedroom have to be finished, next weekend I'll do the carpeting with my dad and then I can already start to move my furniture. I'm so excited! I'll try to take some better pictures of the flat next week, but as I mentioned a dozen times already I just have a very shi**y camera, that always blurs anything.

Fresh Fall Fabrics

For Fall I try to make garments that coordinate with each other. I already got a mustard cardigan and a blue shirt blouse and I'm going for a late 70's look. Which means wide leg pants, which I will make of the berry coloured corduroy velvet. I'll probably have some leftovers of the fabric, because I orderer 2,5 m so I guess that means I'll make a skirt as well. Then some skinny corduroy pants from the brown corduroy. I already have a similar pair that I got second-hand and where I made the legs skinny, but it is a bit uncomfortable and has no stretch so I will replace that one.
The purple fabric is a knit and will become my trusted drapey cardigan, the striped knit maybe a turtleneck dress and the green fabric with lots of stretch was already turned into a pair of skinny pants. Maybe I'll get a picture of them on the weekend. They attracted some comments by my colleagues, but a random woman in a shop also told me " I just have to say that, your pants are really cool!". That made my day!

Mein Me-made Mittwoch

A look into the future

Today I had a very fun day at work. I did not only write some texts for our blog and organized the material for a tutorial, we also had a meeting with one of our suppliers and got to see the fabrics for spring/summer 2013. Together with my colleagues we decided which fabrics should be purchased and I have to say it was not easy to decide. Lots of beautiful flower prints, some digital prints and great jersey fabrics. The final decision was made by my boss and I can't wait until January when the first deliveries will come to our storage. As I haven't been there when the autumn/winter 2012 fabric were chosen, everyday I try to get a glimpse of the new fabrics before they are shot for the website and I really need to restrain myself to not buy everything. We will have further meetings with other suppliers and I'm looking forward to see what they offer. So, if you have a certain fabric in mind and can't find it anywhere, just give me a shout and I'll see if one of our suppliers offers it. A certain lady once told me that she would like to purchase some Swiss Dot cotton...Well, we'll offer that next year, unfortunately you were too far ahead of the trend Katarina!

Matching top and drink? For sure!

This picture is already some days old, but I think it shows my latest me-made really well. It is a sort of Colette Macaron style top with a yoke and rounded bust contour. I used a fairly old Burda pattern, which I already used a couple of times. The yoke is made of the same linen that I used for my latest Sorbetto and the yellow fabric is a knit that I got at stoffe.de. It is partly made of wool and partly of cotton. I love the colour and had enough fabric to make a cardigan as well. I used my trusted self-drafted cardigan pattern with a drapey front piece. I'll show you pictures, when I find a decent spot to take outfit posts after my move. Things are progressing slowly. Tomorrow I'll sign the lease contract and then I'll soon start to renovate the apartment, sew curtains, cushions and decorate. I plan to move in with little furniture, only the necessary parts and then slowly get additional pieces. As long as the kitchen is equipped with a fridge and oven and I have my mattress to sleep on, everything is fine. What are the most necessary elements of furniture for you?

Fall 2012 or Spring 2013?

Fashion and its fashion cycle is strange. While I'm planning my wardrobe for Fall 2012 the Spring/Summer collections for 2013 are shown in New York, then London, Paris and Milan. I've watched some shows on YouTube and it comforted me about my thoughts about fashion nowadays. I personally believe that the times of the big trends are over. With the rise of all the fashion blogs, online shops and new magazines fashion has become very diverse. Skinny jeans or flares, cropped or maxi, everything is possible nowadays. You can get anything at any time anywhere in the world. In the 2013 shows much of the fall and summer items of 2012 are repeated. You can't reinvent the wheel, can you?
What becomes more apparent now is ones own style and with that I'm in the very lucky position that I can sew. I can make my trousers wide or skinny, just as I like it right now. Well, I'm still trying out different silhouettes and have fun with the items in my closet, but if I should describe my style it would be difficult. One day I want to wear a pretty dress or skirt and oneday I'll just thrown on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt and I'm good to go.
The shows are giving me an idea for new stylings though, some color combinations that I haven't thought of before or combinations of textures which are interesting. Thoughts for the use of patterns that I had before are confirmed and I only need to find the matching fabrics.
Here are the looks for Spring/Summer 2013 that I would like to get for the next season:
3.1 Phillip Lim

A leather motorcycle jacket is already on my sewing list for some time, but so far I haven't found the perfect material and the pattern that I once copied out of a Burda is too small now. I also looked if I could find a nice one in a store, but haven't found one so far. I have a cool bottle green leather jacket that I once thrifted, but it is a tad too small as well *sigh*.
The shirt is easy to make and for the pants I could use my PJ pattern.

Charlotte Ronson
Charlotte Ronson

Charlotte Ronson has shown some pretty dresses in flowy chiffon fabrics. Blue and oceany greens were well represented and I really like these colours. I had in mind to make a nice turquoise dress with cobalt blue accents, which would fit well into this collection.

Tracy Reese

Love that colour combination. I have a yellow cardigan and blue blouse, which I could combine with a white jeans. Sometime the shows give a good idea for new combinations and outfits that one would not style otherwise.

The outfit by Rebecca Minkoff on the top of my post is my absolute favorite look. It is so wearable, cute and comfortable. Should be easy to make with a simple button up blouse and a contrasting yoke.

Fall Is In The Air

With September Fall starts and with the new season comes a new season to think about style and fashion for the next season. At the fashion shows we will see the new trends for the upcoming spring, but before we can embrace the warmth again, we have to enjoy the beauty that Fall brings. I love to live in a region with distinctive seasons, it makes you appreciate the different atmospheres much more. Of course summer is always a happy time and you can spend a lot of time outdoors, but getting cosy at home in the dark months is something that I long for now. Just sitting in a comfy chair with a good book or maybe some knitting, drinking tea...
So to get inspired for Fall I looked at Pinterest and filled up my old Fall Palette Board with new pins.
I still love everything mustard and jewel tones, colour blocking is also on my list of trends that will stay. A new black leather biker jacket will probably become the investment of the season, I just need to find the right one. H&M had a nice one, but it was a tad to small and I could't really move comfortably so I left it at the store. Any ideas where to get a good quality one, which is less than 50 €? With the move and all the things that I need to buy for the apartment, I can't really spend more on one item of clothing.
On my sewing list are two pairs of trousers, one pair of skinny ankle length Clover-style ones in the green fabric and a pair of brown corduroy skinny Clover-style ones.

The purple knit will become some kind of cardigan or sweater like top.

I already got some blue and red striped jersey in my stash, which will become a v-neck shirt. That will be a nice basic top to combine with the skinny pants and purple knit.
What will you be making for Fall? Any sewing and knitting plans?
