Ideas and Inspiration

It's still more than a month until I can get started on renovating my new apartment and get all the furniture, but I think it's important to gather inspiration beforehand and think about what I like and what I dislike. I've already learned that I hate almost all beds and lights. Well, there are some beds I like but they are easily costing several hundreds of Euros and I'm not determined to spend so much. So I guess it will be me sleeping on a mattress until I find the perfect bed in my price range.
I'm really inspired by the, well not so new anymore, Couch magazine, which is a living & fashion magazine from the same publisher like the Schöner Wohnen magazines. I had a period in my teenage years where I was constantly borrowing magazines about decoration and furniture and love the inspiration that these magazines give me. Of course today one can also see so many great things at Pinterest, but I'm also happy to sit back and relax while browsing in a magazine. Couch has many DIY ideas, which I love.
On the sewing front nothing new happened in the last week. I made two bags for work and a couple of tiny pouches which we will use for a tutorial, but no clothing unfortunately. What did you craft this week?

Hello sailor!

This weekend Hamburg celebrated the annual Cruise Days. Several cruise ships had come to the harbour and on Saturday evening five of them left the harbour again. The event attracted lots of visitors coming from everywhere.

One couple was waiting three hours on the harbour just to see the AIDA. Because I think that it's important to try out all the touristy attraction to be prepared if visitors come to see me, I met with a friend and we played tourists. I had read something about the event starting at seven in the evening, but it started at nine, so we spend some time at the harbour and took a ferry to the fish market. Not many people had the idea so we could get front row seats and waited there for the ships to come.

The AIDA had to cross the harbour before the official sail and so I could get a good picture of the cruise ship. Later in the evening my camera was not very cooperative and it's bad for pictures in the dark, but I got some shots. With every ship there was a firework and because the harbour was also having the Blue Port days, several building and docks were illuminated with blue light. This created a very special atmosphere.

Garden? Check! Huge closet? Check!

On Thursday I went to have a look at the apartment and talk to the previous tenants' son. He was very kind and after come chatting we went on to inspect the furniture. Unfortunalety it was not so much what I liked, but the bedroom included a wardrobe which covered the whole length of the room. Perfect for me and my many clothes. The wardrobe looks new and there are no scratches or anything on the wood, so I will definitely keep that. In the living room I couldn't use anything because the furniture was definitely not my style ( I'm speaking of dark brown wall systems, which are favourited by, well, old ladys). I'll have to invest in a kitchen and get a fridge and freezer and a new stove. Looking forward to going shopping for these items. I'll plan my budget for furniture and everything else in the next weeks. Lots of it will definitely come from friends and family and I'll also look in Stilbruch, which is a second-hand shop that sells furniture and stuff.
Best thing about the apartment? It includes a small garden with a patio, perfect for dinner in the evening, as that is when the sun sets down on that side of the building.
Do you also use Pinterest to collect ideas for interior design? Tell me about it, I need a lot of inspiration now, before I decide on color concept and styling ideas.

Wind of change

enjoying the sun at the Alster

This year will go into the history of my life as the one with the biggest changes ever. Finishing my studies and getting a job right away and now I'll even move into my own two room flat! I'm so excited, especially for the whole process of converting the rooms into my sanctuary, where I can relax and hang out with friends. Of course I will share my ideas for the rooms as soons as I get to move in, which will be in a couple of weeks. Before that I will enjoy browsing different interior design blogs and discover a whole new world. I already have a colour scheme for the bedroom in mind. Tomorrow I will have a look at the flat. It's currently lived-in by an old lady and I'm excited to see, if I can use any of her furniture. Maybe it just needs a new modern pop of colour and will be good. I'll inform you how it goes.
On the other side I've been making a couple of projects in the last week, but I don't get around to take pictures of them. Maybe on the weekend we'll see. I made a pair of pants, similar to the Colette Clovers but with a Burda pattern in a vivid flower print gabardine and a cardigan with my trusted pattern. Then I made a new Sorbetto with fun bias binding and a stripey t-shirt, which are both pieces that I love.

Wherever I go

This picture was taken in the park of Schloss Rheydt, which I visited with a friend shortly after I FINISHED my studies! Two weeks ago I had the oral examination and then everything was over. I still can't believe that I'm done and don't have to spend my afternoon writing my thesis and read books related to my topic. The result was pretty satisfying and if I would like to continue doing a master study course I would be able to meet the requirements. But so far my path is already preset, because I was offered a job in the company where I did the internship and wrote the thesis. That means I will stay in Hamburg and continue doing what I did the last months. I still have to get used to the nine-to-five rhythm and I'm also on apartment hunt, so please excuse if the blog gets neglected in the next weeks. I have made some things, but my camera is not very co-operative and so it's dreadful taking pictures.
